Clynelish 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 26, 2017 (edited October 21, 2024)I will shamelessly steal from Cascodes review here. Honey check, unripe cantaloupe check (well to be fair its unripe something so I'll take his word for it :-) ), bitterness balances the sweetness but lingers too long in the aftertaste. This whiskey had the unfortunate privilege of coming 3rd after my tasting of 25 Caol Ila and 18 year talisker so whilst it didn't hold a candle to the former it compared favourably to the later. It had shades of the Tullibardine 20 - some viscosity + some bitterness. 3.75 and at $65USD here that's a 4. -
Port Charlotte Islay Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 23, 2017 (edited November 27, 2017)Not a bad dram. Tasted a bit young and water didn't help elicit any further flavour. I preferred the Ardbeg Aur and Benromach peated on the night -
Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 23, 2017 (edited February 3, 2020)Not to bad. Improvement over the 12 year. Rich sherry and other notes. Doesn't have the deep richness of say a Glendronach though. 3.4 -
Auchentoshan 12 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 23, 2017 (edited September 21, 2019)Hmm out of 9 drams tonight its my least favourite. It just didn't really taste of anything. Barely favored alcohol. -
Jura Superstition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed November 23, 2017 (edited August 18, 2020)This is an interesting drop. Full bodied sweetness with a nice balance of light peat. It has a slight that doesn't ring true and I prefer the prophesy but I'd say a solid 3.5 and at under $50USD that's a 4. -
Ah this whiskey bar is great. To great in fact as in 24 hours I've gone through 14 drams and its a school day. Anyhow to the whiskey. I like this. Much prefer to the 10 and An Oa as none of that lemony flavour I dislike. Black charcoally smoke as Dreaming for Islay mentions. Water actually improved it...in fact I'd say Ardbeg is probably one of the few distillers I add a few drops to their high abv strength stuff and it comes to life. Most drams it just washes the flavour out. I was like yeah this is a 4. Then I read DFIs review and thought what is the price on this. $200USD here...whaaat. I think down to a 3.5 it goes. I can get the uggie or the kelpie for much cheaper and i prefer both

Benromach Sassicaia Wood Finish 2007
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 22, 2017 (edited November 23, 2017)Yeah I'm with CSJ on this one. Not a bad drop but notes of Sassicaia are pretty faint. 10 and 15 are great whiskies their non age stage variants not so good.
