Tastes

Licorice and maybe a little bit of mint on the nose. There is also a some peach there. The taste has a bit of an oily feel, very nice, even though it doesn't display legs in the glass. The pitted fruit flavor is there as promised with a bit of charred wood and spice. The finish is wonderful, with the fruit fading, the wood staying, and the spice lingering. That's the finish I like. There are buttery notes that come to the fore when a few drops of water are added. Wonderful.

This is my second tasting. The nose is young. It's nice unless you inhale too much, then the alcohol hits. There is the peat again, but it's not overpowering. Beyond that it's too thin. I like the burn in the finish - it lingers. Some of that I suspect is youth. Sometimes you hear people refer to bad whiskey as "paint thinner", or "varnish". It's not that bad, but I start to understand the reference.

Cherry comes through in the nose, along with a bit of nuttiness. It has a beautiful color. The taste is a wonderful blend of spice and velvet. The finish has a bit of spice and a wonderful taste of charred wood. The 5 rating is with water, which brings out a bit more sweetness.

The best rye whiskeys are velvety and spicy, with a lingering peppery zip in the finish. This has some sweetness but otherwise does not have those qualities. It's not as rich as I like. The finish is a little thin.

It has a bit of zing, I guess that is the fire. There is also a bit of peaty smoke in both the nose and on the tongue. The nose is nice, and the spicy finish would be great if there wasn't something just kind of off.

Not a lot of nose, but a beautiful color. Sweetness of bourbon gives way to the spiciness of rye. Long lasting finish which is spicy richness.

With a few drops of water, this is excellent. The nose has quick bread with a little bit of spice and a hint of both wood and fruit. On the tongue, it is an excellent balance of spice and sweetness. The finish is that of dry rye toast.

The nose has hints of toffee, and some spice. It has legs, but the taste isn't overly oily. I am not great at identifying flavors, but I can say the balance between spice and sweetness is one of the best I have had in a while. The finish retains a hint of spice - very nice.

Berry and slightly floral nose. Buttery taste without the oil, with light and pleasant cask notes. Settles warmly into the chest.

It has a nice nose, though it has less caramel in it than many bourbons. There are hints of nutmeg. All good. Then I tasted it. Perhaps because it is 107 proof, the bite overwhelms everything else. The corn and wheat can't stand up to it. The finish is alright, given that we are going in to it somewhat behind already.
