Uncle Nearest 1856 Tennessee Whiskey (Sourced Whiskey)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 14, 2020Delicious! I was a little skeptical about a $50 bottle with NAS, but I'm really glad I tried it. Not only does this have a cool story, but it is one of the tastiest bottles of Tennessee whiskey I've had.49.99 USD per Bottle -
Very Old Barton 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 14, 2020 (edited September 18, 2020)More like "Somewhat Old Barton". This bottle is a little tough to come by in the Chicago burbs sometimes, so I was excited to find some at Binny's and give it a try. Overall this was rock solid for a 100-proofer under $20, but not my favorite. For the same price, I still prefer Evan Williams BIB in just about every way, or I'd rather just spend an extra few bucks on Wild Turkey 101 or Old Grand Dad Bonded. Not a bad buy at all though for some cheap bourbon! Good mixer!16.99 USD per Bottle -
Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 10, 2020 (edited November 1, 2020)Mine is a Binny's store pick, aged just over 11 years. Re-visiting this review as I unfortunately near the end of my bottle. What a bottle of bourbon! I've seen the prices on these start to creep up a little bit, but it's still an amazing value around $50, especially compared to the other high-proof bottles people go bananas for. Worth noting that this is a single barrel pick, so your bottle may end up varying from mine. There is so much flavor packed into each sip of this though, and each one compliments each other extremely well. Very full mouth feel, lots of peanut and cherry flavors up front followed by caramel, chocolate, orange, molasses, and some more nuttiness. One cliche I see a lot with barrel proofs is that a bottle is "surprisingly smooth for a xxx proof". I think one of my favorite things about this bottle though is that it doesn't shy away from the proof at all. It has a ton of kick neat or with some water, and while some ice mellows the heat down a bit, it seems to amplify the flavors even more. This and Rare Breed will continue to be my go-to options for higher-proof bourbons, and hopefully it remains as inexpensive and accessible as it is today. Why go nuts trying to find a bottle of Weller FP or Stagg JR when you can just get this for less?44.99 USD per Bottle -
It is fitting that this Scotch came out for the last two seasons of Game of Thrones. Much like the latter part of the show it is marketed for, it is horribly constructed and will leave you wishing for the original product. It is slightly more tolerable chilled or as a mixer, which is the only reason I'm scoring it over a 0. Make no mistake though, this is a truly awful bottle of Scotch, and is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. Unless you're a huge fan of the books or show and want this as a collectors item, save your money and just buy a bottle of Red or Black.27.99 USD per Bottle

Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 26, 2020 (edited June 16, 2020)Edit - Just a quick update as I finished this one. I knocked it down from 3.5 to 3.25, again solid but disappointing for the price and hype. Very hot and dry for a 115 proofer. The bottle opened up more over time and with a couple of water drops, but it was still mostly just a very dry cherry taste on the palate. If high-proof whiskey is what you're after, I think Rare Breed, Knob Creek 120, Jack Single Barrel BP, and Maker's BP are all better buys. Hot on the nose with some spices, dark fruits, tobacco, and dark chocolate. The palate was pretty disappointing for me. There are so many different flavors here, but I thought they clashed more than anything. For me this was pretty hot, even for a 115 proof, and none of the flavors really stood out against the heat. It mellowed out with a few drops of water, but even then I didn't think it was particularly good. It basically tasted like a spicier version of the 100-Proof OF, with more cherry & black pepper, and a little less banana & vanilla. It's definitely worth trying and I'm glad I gave it a shot, but I will not buy it again at $55-60 personally. For higher-proof options, I think Knob Creek's Single Barrel picks are a much better buy. The ones I've tasted have a similar flavor profile to the 1920, but were much more well-rounded, and $10-15 less expensive.59.99 USD per Bottle -
Evan Williams White Label Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 26, 2020 (edited June 4, 2020)This is one of those bottles that will always have a place on my shelf. Great in cocktails, delicious on the rocks, and a fine sipper neat. Nothing overly complex, but straightforward and tasty, and very difficult to beat at its price.18.99 USD per Bottle -
Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask Limited Edition
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed May 26, 2020 (edited June 17, 2021)A little disappointing. I was hoping the cider cask finish would add a little more flavor, but this was basically standard Tullamore DEW plus a very slight hint of apple sweetness. I won't seek it out again; I honestly preferred the taste of the standard Tullamore.29.99 USD per Bottle
