Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed June 13, 2016 (edited January 1, 2017)Whisky Club 5. One grand Grey Ghost ($100). Smoooooth. We have tried this one with some freshly harvested honeycomb from our beehive not 30 meters from where we sit. We tried it before the notes were read and we're commenting that it was rich and full with honey. Bingo! All consensus from the Whisky Club was that it was a fantastic drop that we all liked. -
Aberlour 12 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed April 12, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Whisky Club 3: $67 AUD. A lovely full Whisky, syrupy and smooth, one that represents terrific value. However for myself a little too sweet and drinkable. I wouldn't savour it and before I knew it, I'd have finished off half a bottle. Which in itself isn't a bad thing. Would add to the collection. -
Spey River Double Cask Single Malt
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 8, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Whisky Club 1 - the inaugural bottle. I picked this up for $50 AUD at Dan Murphys with the promise of it being a single malt from the Spey region. It was light, clear and fairly inoffensive. Which to me is a problem as I prefer my scotch to have a bit of personality and character. Extremely subtle, nose was soft hinting at honey and light notfes of wood. Soft taste and negligible finish. Glad I tried it, probably wouldn't buy it again. -
Hellyers Road Original 10 Year Single Malt
Single Malt — Tasmania, Australia
Reviewed March 8, 2016 (edited December 20, 2018)Whisky Club 2: $87 AUD for a 700ml bottle. Consensus was that it was pricey due to volume as opposed to craft. Beautiful nose on the initial smell, lingers with vanilla and floral tones. On first taste, sharp and full, with a pleasant blossom to vanilla and sweet notes. However it's an abrupt finish, which peters out without much fullness.
