Glen Grant 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 30, 2016 (edited December 1, 2017)As always Glen Grant is the king of texture. Creamy silk texture embellishes the milky malt core on the palate. Vanilla pudding on the mid palate. Yummy! Lots of citrus shrouded by smoke. I enjoyed this but it made me yearn for the yonder years when I had (the even creamier) Glen Grant 10yr on the shelf. -
1792 Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 19, 2016 (edited February 28, 2018)The texture alone makes this worthwhile. Golden nectar! Sweet dessert notes. I'd wager this is a blend of young and old, no middle aged whiskies here. Young and sweet upfront then dry and full of wood notes near the end. Ideal for when you want a quiet corner and a heavy low ball. -
Bowman Brothers Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed November 19, 2016 (edited February 28, 2018)Thin silky texture, ample sweetness, the usual fare for bourbon with a savory finish. Slightly better than most meat and potatoes. Yet another worthwhile bourbon at the magical $30 mark. -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed November 17, 2016 (edited February 28, 2018)Silky texture, creamy malt, bright orchard fruit punctuated by chimney smoke. Everything is purposeful and distinct. Years of blending over and over is how you create this. -
Port Charlotte Islay Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 26, 2016 (edited November 23, 2016)The peat acts as a vessel for wonderful earthy characters. Like Caol Ila and Port Ellen. Heather and white pepper being at the top of the heap. Not heavy handed or too phenolic, it's quite nimble. -
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 10, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Teeters on being almost too sweet but reigns it in on the finish. Not the best but certainly not the worst. The Coca Cola of American whiskey.
