    The aroma leans more towards industrial than tropical: tennis ball rubber and gasoline. Though there are some dried fruits underneath these top notes. The palate is a dazzling mess of flavors. There's tropical fruits, sugar cane, vanilla extract, confectioners sugar, and fruit leathers. Engaging juicy texture with added spice and tannins to dry things out. The finish returns to rubber, taffy, and a splash of gasoline. Add a bit of water to dispel the initial heat of the alcohol. Though there's no escaping the warming burn that radiates through your chest.

    Islay whisky down to the bone. Aroma: Dry seaweed, walnut wine, and salted chocolate. Palate: Dry chocolate, smoldering peat, olive oil, and salt. Adding a few drops of water brings some nice sweet malt and moistens the peat. Not the most mind bending Caol Ila but very satisfying.

  • Mic Drop 8 Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey

    Time in an opened bottle has done this whiskey some good. The aroma has distinctive grain notes, pleasing spice, and a good measure of caramel. The palate is dry but dosed with some sweet flavors like cream soda, vanilla, and charred sugars. The heat teeters on too much but instead gives the whiskey a healthy pulse.

    Really lovely aroma. Which is totally my jam. Jasmine, vanilla, and light leather. Spicy malt, vanilla pudding, and lengthy elegant tannins. Hot damn!

    No mistaking this for anything but an island dram. Wet peat, seaweed, and wet smoke on the nose. More brine and peat on the palate. Vanilla and pale malt. The finish is drier with chimney smoke and chocolate biscuits.

    Stellar aroma with rare clarity. Dill, rich brine, dried cranberries, and spicy pickles. Tart cranberries and sweet berries initially on the palate. Then comes the savory: kosher salt, spicy brine, roasted grains, and caramelized fruits. The finish gets sweeter with rhubarb syrup and subtle tannin. A unique and tasty Rye, no question.

    Light and dry. This is a nice bourbon to cut your teeth on. Both the aroma and palate are light but pleasant. Mild wood influence makes for something mostly sweet but a little spicy. This would make for a nice aperitif for a meal or good opening drink for the evening.

    This is lean, light, but shows some maturity too. Nice vanilla, caramel, and soft grain notes. The cream soda sweetness reminds me of younger refreshing bourbons. There’s subtle nuttiness and syrup flavors. I don’t regret what I paid at the bar but I wouldn’t throw down for a bottle.

    Good gracious! A sexy aroma of matchstick smoke, incense, and light perfume. A palate of nougat, rich cream, torched fruit, and brown sugar. So yummy!

    Treacle, Madeira, soaked rum cake, sticky toffee pudding but this is all in the nose. The palate is much more simplistic as it is drenched in Sherry and wine. But a wonderful whisky to nose.
