I.W. Harper 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 19, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)The nose invites a floral of vanilla, seared oak, and herbs. To palate, shampoo and cinnamon candy translates to mint, tobacco and orange. No question this is a sweet, smooth bourbon that I look forward to enjoying with company. -
Lets just get straight to the point with this bourbon hailing from Texas - Butterscotch and caramel finished with sweet green apples and a hint pepper. I have only visited Texas once and I do plan on visiting the Lone Star State again at some point with intentions of visiting a few distilleries. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Garrison Brothers Single Barrel. Not for the price.

My brother had gifted me a bottle of this a few months back. He knows I enjoy the rye sibling, so why not the ten year? Although this ten year is certainly a more curbed version of the Bulleit family, it remains a bit underwhelming. Vanilla and spice make headway and are the center pieces. Dates later accompany a smooth finish. Fortunately, I still love my brother for the gift of whiskey. Unfortunately, this particular bourbon lacks boldness and fails to elaborate.

Copper Fox prides itself on the use of apple chips in their distillery. And that's exactly what you get with this unique rye - a mouthful of sweet apples. There is plenty of vanilla in the invitation and deep smoke that stays with the finish. I was initially not a fan, but I have to admit that it has grown on me some. Mostly because it is so unique. Try it as an old-fashioned. I respect Copper Fox going off the beaten path, but there is still work to be done here.

Hancock's President's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 16, 2017This is one of my favorite after dinner bourbons. After my first tasting, I have since kept a stock of it in my collection. This little gem delivers plenty of vanilla flavor served with a sweet side platter of fruit. It finishes with a smooth, subtle taste of mint and caramel.
