Oban Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 6, 2017 (edited March 20, 2017)Great whisky but not my favorite. This is a full bodied whisky that has lots of subtle complexity where nothing particularly stands out. The nose has sea salt, lemon/orange zest and light honey. Its feel is initially smooth with the heat showing a few seconds in. The palate continues to present salty bitterness matched with the orange zest tanginess and honey sweetness. Spices like white pepper appear in the finish accompanied by the hint of charred oak. Verdict: Personally I prefer something a little bolder but they have gone for a specific style and I think this is fairly unique. At $140 AUD I don't think I'll buy another bottle but I will definitely try to make this one last a while and wouldn’t shy away from it in a bar. -
The combination of European and American x-sherry casks gives a sweet aroma of mostly vanilla mixed with some cinnamon, white stone fruit and light floral notes. There is no age statement and I think the lack of body reflects that is it is not a very mature whisky. The texture is dry and harsh with a hot finish (not my preferred smooth and oily feel). The palate loses some of the vanilla but retains the fruit and spice. The floral notes come through more and there is the addition of cereal grains. It's an enjoyable drink but at almost $100 AUD it's definitely not the best value and I won't be buying it again unless it's about 20% off.

Glenlivet Nàdurra Oloroso (Travel Retail)
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 23, 2016The nose is rich and smooth with the sherry note right there. To drink you get the oily texture of non-chill filtered varieties, followed by the brief burn of cask stregnth. Then the body hits smooth, creamy, spicy and just a little nutty. The texture stands out more than the flavour but there are pleanty of subtle notes to appreciate. I seem to pick out different flavours every time I try it so while it won't be my everyday choice I will probably keep a bottle around. -
Irish cream! This has the typical characteristics that makes it obvious its blended. Having said that pleanty of honey and spice on the nose. To taste… the opening statement! It tastes up front like Irish Cream. As it levels out you can taste the American charred honey oak, spice, fruit and just a hint of smoke. It is complex and completely unique (to my scotch exclusive tastes at least). It may be blended but its still smooth and oily with pleanty to offer, expessially for the price point. Recommended
