Nose: Very simple but in my opinion, one of the best aromas out there. Great, powerful smoke with iodine. Sweet notes in the background. Taste: Oak and peat hit you with salt, spices and sweetness. Malty and medicinal with small drops of vanilla. Water adds earthly and green tones. Finish: Not a rough one but a strong one. Dry and smoky lasting finish with tar and iodine. Balance: Very powerful dram. If this doesn't heal you, then nothing will. Very characteristic Islay single malt whisky.

Nose: Starts with intense smoke. Smoke fried bacon with tar and lots of peat. Hints of pine trees. This is a peat monster! Taste: Salt and smoke on the background, very peaty. Rich with peat, oil, spices and medicinal notes. Oh, and did I mention peat already? Finish: Peat is the main factor with some collision of smoke. Drops of oil in the mix as well. Balance: This is as close you can get to a camp fire barbecue in whisky heaven. A tough customer, if I may borrow some hockey fight talk. A good but rough dram, just the way I want it!

Nose: Very floral and sweet. Caramel with flowers, herbs and wood. Tangerines and oranges are in the mix as well. Very rich nose, I probably didn't catch even half of the scents. Taste: The nose made lots of promises and the taste doesn't let you down: rich and versatile. Heavy notes of tangerine mixed with light spices. Caramel, malt and oak with peppers. Finish: Nicely long finish with caramel slowly evaporating and being replaced with citrus and other fruits. Smoothly burning, spicy finish with green peppercorn and hints of vanilla. Balance: Very rich dram, that just keeps getting better at each step of the tasting.

Nose: Starts nicely with delicate smoked ham and citrus notes. Hints of cigar leaves. Fresh with smoke! Nose is the best part. Taste: Almost full. Oily with tar and delicate smoke. Sweet honey. Finish: Finish is rather long but for my taste, lacking some smoke. Even though the smoke is there. Peppery and sweet. Balance: Nice peated whisky, an okay dram from Islay. Smoke in a smooth and delicate way. Subtle and sweet side of Islay.

Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 7, 2014 (edited December 14, 2016)Nose: Strong sherry with big oak influence. Apples on the background. Taste: Sherry dominates but it's much smoother than in the nose. Thick stuff, wee spicy with fruits and raisins. Finish: Add water, let the dram open up for 15 minutes or longer. The finish gets nicely smooth. Spices, oil and fruits. Balance: Decent whisky, probably great for sherry whisky drinkers. Taste and finish are the best parts – really just not the best whisky for my palate. -
GlenDronach Revival 15 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 7, 2014 (edited November 26, 2015)Revival is smooth and easy, yet complex. Nose: Starts with intense sherry and rubbery side smell. Develops into malty citrus and dried fruits. Water brings the toffee. Taste: Toffee and malt in a nice thick way. Nuts and sherry delicately on the side and dry notes, like dark chocolate and dried fruits. Finish: Spices and oak in a dry and warming way. Sweet fruits rise in the aftertaste. Balance: Rich, best sherried whisky, I've tried so far. -
Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 7, 2014 (edited December 6, 2014)Nose: Starts with sweet maple syrup. Gets even sweeter, touch of caramel and tropical fruits. Sweet rye. Taste: Sweet, dark and sugary rye, you could chew on forever. Smooth and crispy operator of mint, caramel and oak. Finish: Medium length but bit on the light side: oaky, bitter and spicy. Balance: Good rye whisky in balance. Apart from the light finish. "Bang for the buck" dram! I've heard that this Rittenhouse is one of the top preferred ryes by American bartenders for cocktail making. -

A great combination of spices and sugary fruits develop with time. Rich and complex. Finish: Malted barley with wee oil and some earthly touch. Also bitter notes. Smooth and long finish.
