Bruichladdich The Laddie 10 Year (2nd Edition)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 18, 2019 (edited September 8, 2021)This one really grew on me. It started off pretty meh, but really opened up over the last few months. On the nose I get a slight minerality and then some fresh tropical fruit. Palate has a cool and salty entry then spicy. The fruit carries over and there is a slight smoke, not peat but more like the barrel char you get from bourbons. The finish is long and I get bits of liquorice. Finished this last night. So good. It definitely got better after a while in the bottle. A salty, mineral quality really came out. It was salty, fruity, and full bodied. I’m going to miss this. The Classic Laddie has a lot of what this had going for it, but it is not as refined nor complex. 90/100 -

Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 18, 2019 (edited February 15, 2020)Because everyone says this is so good, and because it has celebrity endorsements and shows up in pop culture a fair amount, I went in not wanting to like the Laga 16. I didn’t want to like it because it is chill filtered and colouring is added and also because I thought that it would be a mediocre malt that relied on its recognizable name, a la Macallan. But, it is so damn good. I sniffed it for a good half hour before even digging in. Smelled of smoked maple bacon cooked perfectly. It enters softly on my palate, then sweet, then a bite of peat. Finish is medium length and is leather, peat smoke, and some dried stone fruit. F it! I don’t care if it’s chill filtered and has some E150 added; it’s solid! One of my favourites and a classic that I can go back to without getting bored.90.0 CAD per Bottle
