Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2020 (edited May 1, 2020)Received as part of a blind tasting. My notes: Colour 1.6 - Mahogany, nose has sherry and nuttiness suggesting an Oloroso finish. Palate is a surprise, expected a sherry finished scotch and it feels more like a sweet corn whisky. It is a lovely sipper. A- -

Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed February 1, 2020 (edited April 21, 2021)Received as part of a blind tasting. My notes: Colour 1.3 - russet. What the heck is going on here? Nose has roots, earthiness, grass, hay and almost eucalyptus. Complex nose but not in a good way. Palate is worse, watery and it feels like when you accidentally swallow Listerine. Received as part of a blind testing. My notes: Colour 0.7 - amber, nose is fruit and Speyside sweetness, hints of green apple and floral notes with a touch of malt - Glenlivet-like (but not Glenlivet as there is no colouring). Palate has spice and pepper but some sweetness and fruit notes. An ultra light hint of smoke? Finish is medium, B-. (Followed with Johnnie Walker Green, now I don’t get any smoke and it isn’t as good as green.)
