Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed May 8, 2021 (edited January 8, 2022)The smoke hits you first, but don't be fooled; there's more to this dram than a simple camp fire. There's a fruity note under the peat that deliciously lingers as a counterpoint during the long finish. Highly recommended! -
Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 26, 2021 (edited June 12, 2021)You feel the warmth first, as the nose betrays little prior to your first taste. A hint of caramel and memories of baked treats from years past delight the palate, and a gentle finish lingers, enticing you to take the next sip. A thoroughly pleasant dram, best enjoyed at special occasions.Vinnie's Steak House & Tavern -
The nose has little to offer; merely a whiff of some generic confection. There is a bit of wood at the first taste, and leather, with notes of fruit followed rather quickly by a slight alcohol burn. The fruit lingers through a short finish. A not unpleasant dram, but those looking for something with a bit more substance should look elsewhere...

I bought a 50ml miniature on a lark, and was pleasantly surprised. Tasting notes to follow when I get a full sized bottle. UPDATE: Oh. My. God. I put this up against The Balvenie Carribean Cask, and found Glenlivet's offering sorely lacking. So lacking, in fact, that my wife marked the label with a large, black X to denote that the contents of this bottle are best used to add flavor to the pressure-cooked brisket she makes from time to time... tl;dr: Don't. Just don't.

Macallan Classic Cut (2017 Release)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 1, 2020 (edited October 9, 2020)A subtle nose belies its 52.9% ABV, but things get much more interesting at the first taste. Hints of orange and vanilla come to the fore, followed by warm leather and a bit of cedar. The finish is mild and lasting, paving the way for the next sip—or glass—as the case may be... -

Tamdhu Batch Strength Batch 004
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 2, 2020 (edited July 20, 2020)A wonderfully complex nose makes clear its time spent in sherry. Very balanced on the palate, with a long, lingering finish. I'm reminded of baked treats, fine chocolate, a bit of fruit. Definitely worthy of a second tasting! -
Macallan Rare Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 28, 2019 (edited March 27, 2020)Where to begin? The initial impression brings to mind a mother's embrace--warm and inviting, it encourages remembrances of times past. This is followed by a gentle, spicy finish that hints of better times ahead. Definitely an experience not to be missed!
