Whistlepig 10 Year Small Batch Rye
Rye — (bottled in) Vermont, Canada
Reviewed November 20, 2021 (edited April 13, 2022)A subtle nose brings to mind a hint of honey. With the first taste, honey, a bit of leather, and a gentle glow of alcohol leads to a lingering finish. Not a terribly complex dram, but a pleasant sipping spirit nonetheless... -
Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 23
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed November 6, 2021 (edited December 15, 2021)A subtle nose gives little away. With the first taste, light floral notes give way to baked goods with a bit of fire reading into a slow finish. All in all, an interesting dram produced in an interesting way. -
Copper Fox Rye Cognac Barrel Finished
American Single Malt — USA
Reviewed October 17, 2021 (edited March 14, 2023)The nose gives away little with this spirit. As the first sip hits the tongue, there is a bit of fruit, and then...the palate is ignited as if by napalm, obliterating all other notes until the finish which, appropriately, is predominated by smoke. Sigh. I believe the folks at Copper Fox are highly skilled, and capable of great things. But this dram just doesn't measure up. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2021-02 "Tagalong Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 16, 2021 (edited November 30, 2021)Where to begin? The nose gives away little of what is to come. That first taste explodes into an abundance of flavors: fruit, and an exquisite burn that leads into a slow, glorious warm finish. What an engaging dram! -
Auchentoshan 21 Year
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2021 (edited October 26, 2022)A slightly sweet taste of... melon?...is followed by an earthy, slightly smoky/peaty finish. I really wish there was something more to it, but was disappointed. There are better places to spend my "21 year-old Scotch" money than this. -
Glenfarclas 21 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2021 (edited November 29, 2021)Honey, a bit of a burn, and apple cider vinegar come to mind at first taste, but it all mellows into a slightly smoky finish that ends with Dad's pipe tobacco. Certainly a pleasant dram.
