Jim Beam Signature Craft 12 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 4, 2015 (edited February 19, 2015)Nose: Ripe banana, tart apple with softer spice notes. Palate: again fruit forward, with oak spice and vanilla. I disagree with Stephanie finding the finish moderate if not a little on the short side, albeit pleasant. Overall a smooth dram. Not a classic Beam white label fan but this one is enjoyable. -
Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 31, 2014 (edited March 1, 2015)This is a review of the 2 year old small batch, not the older single barrel varieties. Bottled at cask strength (53.5%). Without water: Astringent nose dominates. Mostly spice notes on the palate with a quick finish. With water (ie ice cube submerged for 90 seconds): The nose develops a nice bouquet of butter toffee notes. The spice on the palate is still present but with toffee undertones. The finish is quick and clean with mint notes coming to the forefront. There is a ton of character for this two year old. I have yet to try the older single barrels, but this is a fantastic rye for the age. Will drink this exclusively with a small amount of water from now on because of how it opens up the whiskey. Terrific stuff from Willett in this relatively new rye endeavor. -
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 29, 2014 (edited February 24, 2015)Warehouse BS, Barrel 34-10 Fruity nose gives way to a palate of toffee and spice. The finish is long and mellow with fig notes in my particular bottle. On my top shelf. -
This one packs a punch and is not for the faint of heart. The nose gives you a hint what you're in for. Strong wood and spice notes up front with emerging caramel notes to follow. The finish lasts and keeps you wanting more. Opens up nicely with a splash of water. A little much for an every day pour, but a perfect glass for the right occasion.
