Abraham Bowman Port Finished Bourbon
A. Smith Bowman // USA
A. Smith Bowman existed before the Prohibition and is one of the few to pick up again almost immediately after. Interesting fact: the barrels that once held the Port used in the 2nd stage of aging, also once held the Bowman! Yes, get your head around this - the whiskey was aged initially in new oak, then finished in barrels that once held locallly made Port style wine aged in ex-bourbon barrels. Is your mind blown? See if your tastebuds are!
BourbonProduced anywhere in USA; Mash bill of at least 51% corn; aged in new, charred oak barrels.
Cask Typenew American oak, ex-port wine
"Perhaps because the bourbon is, in a sense, aged in more bourbon, the classic flavors remain very focused and present. The Port does impart somewhat of a grape-flavored children's cough medicine aspect to it, but it's well integrated. Very much on the sweet and fruity side (plums, grapes, dark cherries), but some clove and leather in the finish."
