Appleton Estate Rare Blend 12 Year Rum

I taste some brown sugar and fermenting fruit

Burned sugar on the nose and first taste, followed by spice and oak and floral sweetness. woody sugar finish. very drinkable by itself, excellent in cocktails.

This is a solid rum for the price. I like this much more than the regular (less old) signature blend. I wonder if they're the same blends or if the age really makes a difference. I think for the price (around $33 right now) this is an excellent choice. This is also a good entry into a "purists" rum. No/very little sugar is added (unlike Diplomatico which has way too much sugar added). I much prefer these rums as you can start truly finding what notes and flavors make them unique (similar to whiskeys). If you like sipping whiskeys, especially Bourbons, this is a good entry into rum. Like any good whiskey it'll mix well but also stands out in its own.

Funky nose, not as sweet on the palate.
