Contrary to what some others have said, I like this whisky. While the Glenlivet might be an Edinburgh professor, this is a Glasgow street fighter.
Perhaps unpolished, but definitely honest. You definitely feel the hit.

Musty, dirty olives, brine, engine oil on the nose. Thick and oily on the palate with more dirty olives and brine. Finish is short, peppery and bitter. Some smoke arrives late. This lacks any charm compared to other Ardbeg offerings I’ve tasted.
Improved slightly towards the end of the bottle. Was actually quite good in a Scotch Old Fashioned, which where the majority was consumed. Bumped 1/4 point.
Nose: grain, peat, brine, oak, wet concrete, resin, pear, musty old attic, and bitter medicine. Water opens up some melon and stone fruit, burnt toffee perhaps.
Palate: sweet and smoky, peaty of course, with undertones of vanilla, smoked meat, charcoal, ash, grain spirit.
Smoky, peaty finish, slightly on the shorter side (for an Islay anyway).
