Glad this was added to their core lineup. Definitely a peat bomb but we’ll done with smoked salt, oak, and brown sugar. The smoke just hangs on to the finish for what seems forever!
BBQ smoke, black pepper, and a medicinal weediness. With some effort, I think (maybe) I can find a cantaloupe note. But it’s all a bit hot and one-dimensional, leaning heavily on the peat. Not a bad buy, but I much prefer the complexity and freshness of the ten-year at just $12 more.
Amazingly Smokey, meaty, briny and strong. There are hints of oak and vanilla but the overall pungent smoke and peat make this a dram fo be reckoned with. It lacks the nuance and briney/seawater/iodine finish of a Lagavulin 16 - but damn this is a good scotch!
