Balcones Texas Rye 100 Proof

This is one of the most complex and unique ryes that you could ever have. I don’t know if I’ll buy a bottle because it’s not my exact flavor profile, but it’s definitely complex. It’s hard to get past the sweet corn smell. Nose: Sweet corn, dark fruit, dark chocolate, and a smokey pipe tobacco, and maybe leather???? Palate: Dark chocolate, roasted malt from a stout beer, baking spice, cinnamon Finish: The same finish as if I’ve had a heavy heavy stout beer. Mouthfeel: Balcones is awesome at this. I don't know if they don't have a viscous whiskey.

Not my favorite rye that I’ve ever had, but I really like it! With it being straight rye, it’s definitely really spicey. The nose presents itself as a typical rye. The palate is really strong at first but calms down after a bit. Notes of spice and apples. This rye gets better with a little bit of water added. The taste seems to have a bit of cinnamon in it. I really like it, not sure if I’ll buy a full bottle, there’s too many ryes I want to try first, but once I’m done exploring, I could see this being a daily drinker for me.
