Beefeater London Dry Gin (47%)
London Dry Gin
Beefeater // England
Beefeater is a London Dry Gin that is actually produced in London, specifically in Kennington just south of the River Thames. It is made from a neutral grain spirit base to which nine botanicals are added and steeped for 24 hours. In addition to the requisite juniper the other botanicals are lemon peel, Seville orange peel, almond, angelica root, coriander seed, angelica seed, orris root, and licorice root.
This is then redistilled and reduced to strength with softened water. The Beefeater name was chosen as to be something quintessentially London. The Beefeaters, as the Yeomen Warders are called, have been guarding the Tower of London since 1485 and they adorn the bottles.

Tasting Notes
"The botanicals shine through from afar with juniper and citrus peel coming in first. The nose leads to an herbal, cooked celery aroma with lots of black pepper. As you taste, the spices take over with a warming feeling. The touch of licorice lends just the right amount of sweetness to balance the gin. The coriander works really well in this botanical recipe by not taking over as it can often do. This belongs in the Hall of Fame for the Martini, but the proof allows it to stand out and stand up to bold flavors so bring on the Negroni."
