The Heart of Speyside, named for the region in which BenRiach resides, is their entry level whisky. No age statement and no word on the type of wood used, though likely this is second fill ex-bourbon barrels.
Single MaltDistilled in pot stills from 100% malted barley, produced at one distillery, aged in barrels; if Scotch or Irish, must be aged for at least three years.
"This is a fairly straight forward whisky with sweet malt and vanilla on the nose. There is a trace of smoke, pear fruits, and a dash of salt as well. The pear continues on the palate, but is not as soft and creamy as one might expect from a Speyside malt. Wood spices draw the whisky to a close, but doesn't finish too sharply. "
