Berkshire Mountain Ommegang Cask Finished Bourbon
Bourbon
Berkshire Mountain // Massachusettes, USA
In 2014, Berkshire Mountain Distillery began to release 10 different bourbons finished in 10 different beer-aged oak casks. This bourbon, released in late spring 2014, was finished in an Ommegang Adoration ale cask, a Belgian-style winter ale with a 10% abv.
The whiskey uses New England sourced grains for its mash-bill which is 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. This is triple-distilled in a copper pot still.

Tasting Notes
"The beer-finishing tempers the intense sweet corn and vanilla aromas typically found in Berkshire Mountain's standard bourbon with the dark malt peeking out. Moving on to the palate you will find some apple and slightly bitter spices. The finish is somewhat on the hot (alcohol) side even though it is only 86 proof, but adding water seems to drown out the nuances of the bourbon. "
