Green apple, honey, light oak on the nose. Noticeably sweeter than standard Blanton’s. The nose has a nice softness to it overall
Palate is very sweet with more honey and oak. It coats your tongue in a unique way and is a sweeter, easier drinking bourbon compared to standard Blanton’s.
Finish is also considerably sweeter with comparatively low burn at this proof. Typical Blanton’s had a bitterness on the finish that I don’t enjoy, but Blanton’s gold had no bitter notes at all.
Overall, Blanton’s gold exceeded my expectations. While good, I believe regular Blanton’s bourbon is the most overrated bourbon there is. However, Blanton’s gold was considerably sweeter, softer, more well rounded, and had considerably less burn than its lower proof counterpart. I wouldn’t pay secondary prices for this bottle, but it’s worth trying at a bar or buying overseas if you have the chance.
