Capovilla Liberation PMG RHUM
Rhum Agricole Vieux
Capovilla // Marie Galante , Guadeloupe
Always seeking out new challenges and pushing the limits of his skills, distiller Gianni Vittorio Capovilla found himself collaborating with Luca Gargano of the Velier importing company and the Bielle Distillery on the island of Marie Galante to bring us Capovilla Liberation Rhum. Using a rare, heirloom variety of sugarcane and stringent distillation practices Capovilla created one of the most lauded Rhums ever created. After distillation, he aged this rhum in various once-used French wine cask from such historic estates as Château d’Yquem.
Rhum Agricole VieuxRhum distilled from fresh sugarcane juice that has been aged in oak in barrels not to exceed 650 liters. In Martinique, aging requirements are at least 3 years for a VO designation, 4 years for VSOP, 6 for XO, and at least 6 for vintage rhums. Hors d'age is aged between 8-12 years.
"The nose is a hypnotic confluence of unrefined sugar, copper pennies, almonds and orange peel coupled with freshly cut sugarcane, coconut flesh, and coffee. If the aromas aren’t enough to cast a spell, the palate will certainly win you over. Fruity flavors of peach skin, pineapple, passion fruit; spicy and rich flavors of clove, anise, and tobacco; and pungent, strange (put not oft-putting) flavors like rubber, petrol, iodine, and Magic Marker. This is a spectacular rhum that slithers seductively along the palate like a serpent."
