Charbay Brandy No. 89
Charbay // California, USA
Distilled in the winter of 1989, this brandy uses both pinot noir and sauvignon blanc grapes in its production. It was double-distilled in an Alambic Charentais pot-still and aged for 24 years in French Limousin and Nevers oak barrels. 1000 cases were bottled at 46% ABV.
American BrandyProduced in the US, this is usually referring to brandy distilled from grape-based wine. If the producer uses other fruit, it must be stated on the label. If aged under two years in oak, it must state the word "immature" on the label. Beyond that, labels such as VS, VSOP, and XO mean little as the brands themselves dictate what that means to them.

"For a brandy that's spent 24 years in oak, Charbay No. 89 retains retains remarkable fruit character. With hints of bruleed sugar on the nose, it unfolds on the palate with notes of pear, jasmine, and vanilla. A gentle woodsiness comes out on the finish. This is a finely balanced brandy that leaves one eager for another sip."
