Chinaco Reposado Tequila
Chinaco // Tamaulipas, Mexico
Chinaco is the only tequila brand distilled in Tamaulipas, something they had to fight the Mexican government to do as it wasn't a designated region for the production of tequila. Their reposado tequila is aged between 8-11 months in oak, some of which previously were used to age Scotch whisky. No caramel coloring, oak extract, glycerin, or sugar is added.
Tequila ReposadoDistilled from 100% blue Weber agave, it is aged from 2 months up to a year in barrels no larger than 20,000 L. Any type of wood is acceptable, although ex-bourbon barrels are most common. Reposado translates to "rested".
"The wood aging has really affected the tequila. Where the blanco showed bright tropical fruit notes, the reposado shows the sweetness from the barrel in vanilla, chocolate, and wood spices though not to the extreme smokiness shown on their añejo. The palate is soft and creamy smooth with gentle baking spices and bitter lime pith. They've made three distinctly different tequilas."
