Royal Salute 21 years old is the entry-level whiskey of the namesake brand. The only brand of blended whiskeys whose cheapest example has a minimum maturation of 21 years. The Royal Salute was created on June 2, 1953 in honor of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Its name refers to the 21-cannon salute, performed as a military honor during events involving the royal family. Out of curiosity, other salutes with a smaller number of cannons are performed for military officers or members of the government. Royal Salute comes in bottles of three different colors: red, green and blue. Each represents a jewel in the British crown: ruby, emerald and sapphire, respectively. But you don't need to be a gem expert to know that. Each bottle comes with the name of its honored stone on the packaging. Except for the color of the bottle and the velvet bag that surrounds it, there is no difference in its contents – the blend is the same for the three colors. And before anyone gets smart and asks me, the brown bottle is from an old, discontinued version. And speaking of the blend, the Royal Salute 21 years old uses single malts from renowned distilleries. As a high-end luxury brand linked to the giant Pernod Ricard, Royal Salute has at its disposal some of the best barrels from some of the most renowned distilleries in Scotland, such as Strathisla. As it is a blended whiskey with a defined age of twenty-one years, all of its whiskies, whether single malts or grain whiskies, must be matured for at least the age stamped on their label so that they can be part of the blend. of Royal Salute 21. The average price of Royal Salute 21 years is USD 150. It's not cheap at all, especially for a blended whiskey. Obviously, part of this price is due to the presentation of the whiskey, including a beautiful porcelain bottle, produced by the British company Wade, as well as the velvet letterhead bag in which the bottle is packaged. But the liquid inside bottle is very rich too. Royal Salute 21 was created aiming for harmony, softness and balance. But unlike the festivities, the whiskey was successful. So, don't expect to find strong flavors or a clear predominance of any specific aroma. Royal Salute 21 years seeks universality. In other words, this is a blend designed to be palatable and enjoyable for everyone, even those who are not used to drinking whiskey. And don't worry too much if you've already bought everyone's Christmas presents. Buy a 21 year old Royal Salute anyway. Pay for your proactivity. Treat yourself.
