I finally opened my Peat Monster (disclaimer, the label is different from the one shown here) and I was expecting a stronger punch. When I compared Ardbeg 10 to The Peat Monster, the nose on the Ardbeg was so much more, and the palate had more flavor, the Peat Monster was more salty and briny.

Nose was ok with some peat and smoke but more hints against the alcohol smell. But the flavor comes hard fast. Peat and smoke, light oil and a hints of earthiness. Really pleasant.

Wonderful smoke, the edge of peat with a honey-sweet core. The palate is bold with a bit of maritime salt, and then more vegetable peat. Some crisp, tart apple too but the smoke and peat are the stars here. A great blend!

Peat, brine, minerals, and seaweed on the nose. Light peat undertones that give way to a honey-like sweetness on the tongue. Wonderfully balanced, briny on the finish.

Obviously peat, but a very smooth and inviting entry into peat for newcomers. For crusty islay folks, it’s almost too smooth
