Crazy Uncle Barrel-Aged Moonshine
Other Whiskey
Whipper Snapper // Western Australia, Australia
Hailing from the Whipper Snapper Distillery of Perth, Western Australia, the story behind the Crazy Uncle whisky is the special type of story found only in the whisky world. When Alasdair Malloch, co-owner of Whipper Snapper Distillery with James McKeown, was a mere university student, he struck a friendly relationship with his neighbor Vic, who flew bombers during the Second World War. Vic taught Alasdair how to make moonshine whisky using a recipe given to him during the War from an American pilot he met in Suffolk, England.
The result; a wonderfully smooth Australian tribute to American bourbon. Their barrel-aged variant (they have an unaged version as well) is aged for 3 years in American white oak casks. .

Tasting Notes
"The nose begins with a twinge of mentholated spirits, a small reminder of the drink’s origins, although this quickly dries up and moves into sun-dried hard wood and tannic, spicewood. A faint hint of sweaty leather and hard yakka fall beneath a soft hint of eucalyptus. On the tongue, the taste reveals to be very sweet with a reminder of vanilla and lightly-toasted fudge. The eucalyptus returns with a pleasant cooling mouthfeel and a bit of citrus zest that springs from nowhere. A pepper hint follows and mixes in with new sourdough dotted here and there. Fruity and briny notes come through near the end. This sweet whisky has a very easy and very short finish with a refreshing, cooling flavor. "
