Sipping neat from a repurposed steel salsa tumbler on a porch in Tulum. Light, almost watery in a good way. Smoke of course, but also cucumber and something else I can’t elucidate. Accessible and cheery, in short the opposite of Malcolm Lowry’s prose in Under the Volcano, which I’m reading on said porch (hence the mezcal).
I’m not sure how Jack tasted what he did. I’m by no means a Mezcal expert but I get deep charred peat smoke. Ardbeg on quick first impression. Fading to light sweet agave with lingering dry char. $70 in Ontario.
