Crown Royal Blenders' Mash
Crown Royal // Canada
Released in spring 2018, this product is the first in the Blenders' Series and was initially named Crown Royal Bourbon Mash. As bourbon can only be made in the US, this name was changed, but bottles with the former name are out there. Crown Royal uses over 50 whiskies to create their signature DeLuxe whisky. Blenders' Mash features one of the "flavoring whiskies" used in DeLuxe with a corn-dominant mash bill (64% corn, 31.5% rye, 4.5% malted barley). It aged in new, American oak and ex-bourbon barrels. There is no-age statement and this is bottled at 40% ABV.
CanadianDISTILLED IN CANADA AND AGED IN BARRELS FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS; OFTEN (BUT NOT ALWAYS) CANADIAN WHISKIES ARE BLENDS OF CORN, BARLEY, AND RYE WHISKIES WHICH WERE DISTILLED AND MATURED SEPARATELY. TRADITIONALLY, CANADIAN WHISKEY IS CALLED “RYE”, ALTHOUGH NO MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF RYE-GRAIN WHISKY IS REQUIRED IN A BLEND.
Cask Typenew, charred American oak & ex-bourbon
"Corn dominates the nose, with corn bread and grits followed by rye spice, vanilla, char, and oak. This leads to a thin, oaky palate showcasing vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate chips and peanut brittle. The finish is short and astringent, with more oak, vanilla taffy, peanut shells, and a harsh bitterness akin to burnt coffee grounds or pill residue. Add a few rocks to introduce a sweeter, richer strain, while taming that bitter beast."
