Danny Boy // Ireland
Despite the popularity of Irish whiskey, there are only four distilleries (a few more in in the works, though) in all of Ireland. Danny Boy, named after the famous song, comes from the Cooley Distillery. This is a blended whiskey comprised of 20% malt and 80% grain and though there is no-age-statement, whiskey aged between 4-8 years are used.
BlendedComprised of both single malt(s) and single grain(s) often from many different distilleries; if Scotch or Irish must be aged for at least three years in oak barrels; Irish may include single pot still whiskey in the blend.
"There are no surprises here. Youthful, light, and easygoing, with a nose of wood, vanilla, and a whiff of alcohol despite the relatively low proof. The taste is muted, with vanilla, grain, and a bit of caramel apple. There's little about this whiskey to turn your head, but there's little to make you turn away, either. "
