Denizen Aged White Rum
Denizen // Multiple Countries
The Denizen rum lineup (tagline: Free the Flavor) is offered by New York-based Citizen Spirits and custom-crafted in the Netherlands by highly regarded rum blenders E&A Scheer. Citizen Spirits founder Nick Pelis says that creating the perfect daiquiri rum was his inspiration for the Aged White flavor profile. It’s a blend of Caribbean rums: Eighty percent from Trinidad’s Angostura distillery, the remainder from several Jamaican distilleries. Although labeled a “three-year-old rum,” significantly older rums are found in the blend alongside unaged rum, so “three years” is more accurately an average age. Before bottling it’s lightly charcoal-filtered to remove coloring.
Silver RumAKA Blanco, Light, White. Rum that is usually aged (but not always) and carbon-filtered to remove any color. No specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for aging for most countries with a few exceptions.
"In the glass, the Aged White is crystal clear. The nose hints at classic Jamaican fruitiness without being overpowering. The taste begins with a burst of expected Jamaican overripe banana funk that fades slowly. For an 80 proof spirit, there’s a bit more burn than you’d expect on the finish, although this rum is targeted at mixing with bold flavors like citrus, rather than sipping neat. The full flavor and modest price make it a worthy competitor to more expensive multi-island white rum blends, and worlds better than low-end bulk white rums from the major players."
