Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin

Visual: Clear. Nose: Super intense powerhouse of juniper intertwined with lemon/lime citrus. An extremely heady mix of botanicals. Taste: Smooth and balanced gin character with a lovely softening tea character that ties everything together. Not one of the infusions stands out (other than the juniper itself), but is presented as a cohesive whole. Finish: Medium long with the juniper fading somewhat and the citrus presenting an ultra clean finish. Overall: An excellent gin that adheres to a traditional flavor profile, yet adds enough of a twist to make it unique. This gin works with everything from martinis to a red basil smash. Seek this one out!

Juniper forward om the nose. I do get a sense of other botanicals, but nothing coming out in just the scent for me. But the first sip changes that immediately. I get the tea, I get citrus--lemon and orange peel. The alcohol remains in the background. Adding water subdues the juniper and citrus bringing the black tea forward. Ice evens it all out and it sings with some tonic. I can see why people get really excited about this gin. I look forward to playing with it in a variety of cocktails.

On the nose; heavy pine aromas of course. On the palate; not as heavy on the juniper berries as the nose would lead you to believe. Juniper quickly fades into lemon and some interesting herbal notes that I'm assuming is from the green tea. Almost reminiscent of an Arnold Palmer or maybe sipping gin while the farmer next door bales hay.
