Edgefield Hogshead Whiskey

The high rating is mostly due to this being my first well crafted whiskey that was above middle shelf, back in the day. I used to consider Hogshead a splurge, and I'd buy a bottle every year around birthday time. My tastes have evolved since then, but I still enjoy this whiskey.

Subtle aroma, dark and Woody. Maybe some toffee. Pretty light body, good oak and spice in the tongue, excellent toffee flavors. Only issue is the body, a bit of richness would carry this well

Noses light and sweet, honey with mild spice. It’s bigger than most malts, both from the slightly higher ABV and some bourbon-like spicy tones. The oaky tannins are subtle, but give it stealth maturity. This is a strong malt entry from an inventive business.

Very solid whiskey. Smooth, drinkable, with just a hint of burn and sweet spice underlaying flavors.
