Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon begins its life as fully matured Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon. It then goes into a secondary barrel at barrel proof. These secondary barrels, crafted in partnership with Independent Stave Company, were made with 18 month air-dried staves which were toasted (moderate toast) then flash charred.
Both the initial and finishing barrels were made from new American oak. Bottled at 94 proof, Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel is a permanent addition to the portfolio available beginning September 2020. .

Tasting Notes
"The nose shows a bit of wax along with brown sugar, apples, oak, and char smoke. There's a touch of dried herbs there as well. As you taste, the bourbon is very spicy, almost painfully so. But there's enough sweetness there to help tame the hot spicy notes down with a bit of chocolate covered raisins and vanilla coming through on the finish. Overall, the bourbon is bittersweet--heavier on the bitter--and on the thin side. If you enjoy eating mouthfuls of cinnamon red hots, this is the bourbon for you. If not, stick to their classic Small Batch Bourbon."
