I don’t get why people like Evan Williams as one of their favorite budget bourbons. I get that the white label is better, but this is bad, and I won’t be buying it again.
Nose is just thin alcohol shooting up your nose, too quick to really get any notes.
Taste is tart and boozy. It tastes like a future headache. While there are some typical whiskey notes in this, they are very muted and not that distinct or enjoyable. Way too thin feeling for me.
Follow through is way too quick, it’s a quick shot of alcohol burn and a little bit of caramel/bourbon notes.
It’s just bad, and I’m even giving it a little bit of a pass because of the price. But that’s not an excuse because there are great bourbons out there in that same price range. I would much prefer to buy Mellow Corn or Old Grand Dad, or Jim Beam. I made the mistake of buying a full bottle of this a couple years ago before I had started drinking whiskey, and it was a struggle to finish that bottle, and I just made the mistake of buying a sample bottle again, curious to see if my opinion had changed now that I had gotten more accustomed to whiskey. Turns out it still sucks this time around. The only thing that makes this redeemable to me, is to drown it with coke
