Wow! I thought I hit the lottery when I crossed paths with this bottle without much of a markup from msrp. And my God I now see as to why many love this.
Now I know that each year it’s going to be different, but this 2020 bottle is the best blurb on I have ever tasted.
For such a high proof, it drinks so smoothly and give a flavor explosion. The viscosity feels buttery to me. I first drank the first half of my pour straight, then finished the rest with one cube of ice.
Nose: Tons of caramel and vanilla to me. Minor hint of cherries as well. But I only catch that whiff if I use a proper glass.
Palate: I get charred oak and leather. Caramel and subtle hint of vanilla. With the ice, I was able to get some dark chocolate and express. Good amount of heat, but not overpowering. As fore mentioned, it’s got a buttery feel to me.
Finish: Always lengthy. I may be crazy or something but I get different finishes every sip lol. Or maybe I’m just searching for something or noticing different profiles each sip. I have had finishes with some spice profile - cinnamon and hint of cardamom maybe. Caramel is the theme still. The heat from before is still here, but again it’s not overpowering and does subside.
If this was the only alcoholic pour I could drink for the rest of my life, I have absolutely no complaints.
