Chocolatey, lemony, caramel nose. Sweet, fruity. Rich and full

Following Highland Park The Light, this blares a bunch of discordant flavors. What is going on here? There's a bunch of smoke and a substantial amount of peat (possibly out-shouting the smoke). It's mostly in-your-face with smoke and peat and this off-putting underlying bitterness. There's a good deal of vanilla and floral notes brining in minerality and gross bread with the sweetness. It's kind of herbal in a difficult-to-place and slightly medicinal manner (due to the bitterness). The flavors eventually balance out a bit better and this tastes like a solid Islay whiskey, but not one that I would choose to seek out. A tiny bit of citrus astringency punches the sweetness down even further, unfortunately. The bitterness turns out to be a lot of barrel. I would drink this, but I wouldn't be a huge fan.

Probably the cheapest 15 yr old single malt scotch you can buy, widely available, hugely under appreciated, here’s why below Nose: dry fruit, apricot, ginger, salty caramel, lemon peel, honey, hint of smoke. Palate: light arrival, medium viscosity, honey sweet, citrus, apricot, traces of smoke and spice, the salty coastal flavor complimented it really well. Finish: medium length, citrus lingers with oak bitterness. Well crafted and balanced, a tasty classic Campbell town dram, punches way above the $65 I paid and puts some of more expensive malts to shame. A true hidden gem that’s under the radar. Will always have a place on my shelf.

Cedar, caramel, and vanilla on the nose. Apple, lemon, grapefruit, and slightly sweet initially followed by some brine, smoke, and spicy burn on the finish.

Drammers Club online pour. Very good. Aged in a combination of refill American oak and Recharred American oak, then 12 months in first fill bourbon casks, then 4-6 weeks in Oloroso sherry casks. Nose: Heather, apricot and lavender. Palate: Honey, cedar, toffee and a slight whiff of smoke. The balance between its sweetness and dry character makes it quite unique.

Believe it or not, Campbeltown has more to offer than Springbank. Glen Scotia has always been a bit under the radar, but it has a lot to offer as a distillery! The 15-year-old expression has an intriguing nose, featuring salted caramel, pastries and apricots. Porridge, honey and floral scent add to the complexity. Spicy, aromatic and increasingly cask-dominated, the palate is balanced out by subtle sweetness, bitter walnuts and a touch of arugula. Lemon balm, nutmeg and salt linger in the resinous finish.
