The Cally 40 Year (2015 Special Release)
Caledonian // Edinburgh, Scotland
Caledonian Distillery in Edinburgh produced whisky from 1855 until its closure in the late 1980s. This single grain expression is named “The Cally,” after what employees affectionately called the distillery. It was distilled in 1975 and bottled at cask-strength after a long maturation period of 40 years. This limited edition bottling was released by the original distillers in 2015, as part of Diageo's Special Releases Collection.
Single GrainDistilled from a grain or mixture of grains, usually corn, wheat, or barley from one distillery, if Scotch or Irish must be aged for at least three years in barrels.
Cask TypeAmerican oak
"The Cally wears its age with elegance and grace. Youthful, fresh flavors of golden-apple mix with stewed pear and caramel, coating a viscous, chewy center of shortbread, oats, and earthy walnuts. Some vanilla, cinnamon, wildflower, dill, and coconut begin to emerge with a couple of sips. The finish is full, structured, and lingering."
