Rye
High West // (bottled in) Utah, USA
The 2018 edition of High West A Midwinter Night's Dram is the first in the series to feature a parcel of the distillery's self-distilled whiskey. The release builds upon High West Rendezvous Rye, which is a blend of straight rye whiskeys aged between four and seven years old including 95% rye from MGP, and an 80% rye 20% malted barley made by High West.
For Midwinter, the blend is further finished in port casks made from French oak. Please note: The Act reflects the batch number (Act 6 is the 2018 release) while the Scene is the bottling date.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The nose is all spice upfront, with baking spices of cinnamon and cloves alongside strong rye spice, all ahead of raspberries, cereal grain, red wine, and vanilla extract. The palate is dry, with astringent oak, pine, light spearmint, black pepper, dark red fruits, and more rye spice. A medium-length finish showcases mint and dark chocolate a la mint chocolate chip ice cream, along with cinnamon, licorice, and yet more spice. (Review from Scene 3)"
