High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 9 (All Scenes)
Rye
High West // (bottled in) Utah, USA
A Midwinter Night's Dram is a seasonal annual release which builds upon High West Rendezvous Rye, a blend of straight rye whiskeys. The mash bills for these rye whiskeys are 95% rye/5% malted barley from Indiana's MGP, and an 80% rye/20% malted rye made by High West. For Midwinter, the rye blend is further finished in port casks made from French oak.
Prior to 2018, the brand sourced the rye whiskeys for this release, but it now features its own distillate. Please note: The Act reflects the batch number (Act 9 is the 2021 release) while the Scene is the bottling date. Available in limited quantities as of October, 2021.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The nose begins with a healthy pour of mulled wine, followed by medicinal notes, candied orange peels, lemon pith, and vanilla bean. The palate opens with a dry, tart, and spicy side, showcasing lingonberries, pine, allspice, white pepper, and ginger, and moves into richer notes of burnt caramel and red fruits. Find tannic oak, barrel char, peanut shells, and plums on a medium length finish."
