Hochstadter's Slow & Low 100 Proof Rock & Rye
Hochstadter's // (bottled in) Pennsylvania, Multiple Countries
Cooper Spirits follows up their initial Hochstadter's Slow & Low Rock & Rye, bottled at 84 proof, with this 100 proof edition. While the same flavorings are included, rock candy, raw honey, bitters, and air dried navel oranges, apart from the higher proof another change is in the form of an older whiskey. Here, it's an 8-year-old rye whiskey, sourced from an unspecified location.
Herbal/Spice LiqueursHerbal and/or spiced liqueurs make up a bulk of the liqueur family. Oftentimes the recipe or formula is top secret and decades if not centuries old and were created for “medicinal purposes.” Any type of liquor can form the base. Sugar is added prior to bottling.

"Candied oranges and orange peels jump out on the nose, with a zesty spiciness behind it. Take a sip and notice a lightly syrupy mouthfeel. The Angostura-style bitters come to the forefront initially, followed by more orange citrus, baking spices, rye spice, and orange zest. More candied citrus carries through to the finish where a lingering sweetness remains. Hard to distinguish much of the qualities of the whiskey itself, but it's an easy-sipping semi-prebuilt cocktail."
