Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye (2020 Special Release)

Better than average for me as it comes to Rye. Had a faint pickle juice smell on the nose. Still not a Rye fan.

Appearance: Ruddy brown. Thicc oily legs that coat the glass and then fall slowly. Typical for JD Single Barrel Barrel Proofs. Nose: Maple syrup over fresh banana rye bread. You can smell subtle rye spices, but the sweetness of this nose is mesmerizing. Very faint pecan nuttiness, cocoa powder, and raw sugar. Taste: An initially sweeter rye than most. A quick flash of toasted rye bread sweeps low across the tongue, followed by a rising rye spice buzz. Everything then cools with a scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream. There is also a very sweet end to it that is hard to pin down... bubblegum? Cocoa powder closes. Finish: Sweet, a bit snappy like the gold label JDSBBP. That “I just ate a green banana” mouthfeel. A sweet rye for sure. Succulent through and through with plenty of notes to chase. Retro nasal presents dried fruits, golden raisins and fig. Maple syrup. Overall: A fantastic rye!! I am glad to have found a bottle of this stuff. I will whip it out on cold nights, or share with others who are looking for a one-of-a-kind rye! Delicious!

Sweetness in the end

Neat. Neck pour. So happy I got my hands on one of these today. My favorite store comes through yet again. Damn, this nose is special. Oh my. Maple and powdered sugar. Candy cane. Lemon cake. Cinnamon and clove. Blood orange. Royal vanilla icing. I could just sit here and spew random notes over and over. This is a crazy good nose. So thick and viscous. Dark on the tongue, brown sugar and cinnamon and slight citrus. Oh come on. This is so good. Yeah the lemon cake and vanilla icing translate mid palate but oh it’s so much more. The maple syrup and powered sugar translate on the finish too. The blood orange lingers. Cinnamon and clove on the legs. Did Jack Daniels just release the best rye ever???? This is an insane pour. Seriously. My expectations were high and apparently they were too low.

135.1pf. Gave it about 30min of air. WOW! One of the top two ryes I've ever had (Handy being the other). Very smooth and rich. Would never guess the high proof. They need to make more of this.

Amazing- 100% would buy again. Even for secondary price.
