James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Rye (100 Proof)

Rye, honey on the nose. Rye straight up on the palette with some wood char on the back. Finish is pepper and rye

This is quickly becoming my everyday pour rye. Pikesville is better but at $50, Pikesville is more of an impress your friends or special occasion bottle.

I have come back to this bottle for the third time. This might be the best bang for your buck ‘Rye’ out there.

Great Old Fashioned Rye

Casually sipping on ice. As odd as this sounds, I get pepper and pepperoni on the taste. Strange but true.

Nose: Spearmint, spice, Palate: Spice, oak, vanilla Finish: Medium It's no Pikesville but it's also a young rye. The initial hit tames down as you sip.

Doing a flight of this to the 1776 bourbon and Pukeaville. The Pikesville is richer a I prefer it. However, $30 vs $50 & 100 proof vs 110. I already know I love high proof. I am ending the night with this compared t otto the 1776 bourbon. Not entirely fair as the Rye is an MGP and the bourbon is from KY and most likely James Pepper's own distillate. When put head to head with the bourbon I can taste more dill than I previously tasted. It still tastes a little young and harsh. see my other review for more details.
