Nose: Floral, heather and hay, a faint whiff of smoke
Palate: sweet, musty, sherry cask tannins, nutmeg and a spike of hot pepper.
Finish: medium duration, hot, dry and a short cameo appearance of peat.
An unremarkable whisky, lacking the island character of some of Jura’s older releases now discontinued.
Reviews for Jura are mixed. This is the first one I ever tried and really enjoyed it. The nose is very sherry and nut forward. White oak is there but not extremely dominant. Nuts, raisins, massive amount of Sherry and fruitiness. A calm fig along with vanilla and caramel are also present. The dram is hefty on the palate and very mature for a 10 year. The finish elevates the dram with a strong spicier finish. Really excellent stuff. The reviews are mixed but if you’re a sherry fan and like sweeter stuff, get this. For all it’s worth and the age it is, 97/100. This is like Edradour, a quiet master.
Well balanced for a peated whiskey. Fruity and sweet with smoked peat on the finish. Lacks the medicinal flavor of Laphroaig et al, smoother and less complex. A little spicy burn. Easy to drink for scotch.
