Tasted January 10, 2019Appearance: Walnut brown, almost black, with no cloudiness. Translucent, but very dark. Aroma: A mild but rounded aroma similar to a cup of strong, sweet black instant coffee with a drop of rum. Palate and Texture: Very sweet but surprisingly lacking in coffee flavour. There is coffee, of course, but the sweetness and syrupy texture is so prominent it dominates. You notice coffee more in the aftertaste. The texture is quite thick and satiny. The flavour is very simple and shallow - coffee, but with little nuance. It tastes more like it is based on coffee & chicory essence than crafted from coffee beans. However where it wins is its syrupy mouth-coating texture. Together with the mild coffee character this makes it very effective in mixed drinks, but if you are looking for a coffee liqueur specifically to sip neat as a dessert then keep searching (or make your own).
