Harsh burn neat that covers up everything else. I like it a lot more with water. It removes some heat so I can taste orange and spice and a little sour/bitter. Probably much better as a mixer.
Smells sweet, like apples or wine. Strong burn that lingers and overpowers the flavor. Sharp. Thick/oily mouthfeel that lingers. Would make a good mixer (we're using it for hot toddies). A lot better with a few drops of water.
Nose: Getting a lot of butter noted on this one. Mixed with oak, and sugar.
Palate: Candied cherry, spice and cinnamon.
Finish: Slight bite at the end. Charred oak and a little bit of orange for me.
All in all I much prefer this offering over the standard Knob Creek. Great bourbon with some BBQ or enjoyed with friends over a campfire.
