Nose - a smokey campfire, fresh berries, caramel, pepper and iodine, a bit of cinnamon apple pie filling, faint herbal notes
Taste - smokey black pepper and apples, salted caramel, some light citrus
Finish - a spicy finish with a nice lingering burn, the faint damp smoke flavor stays with your for awhile
Perfect balance of smoky and sweet without being overpowering. Similar in flavor profile to Talisker 10 but stepped up. A fresh bottle is definitely more smoke-forward but after it’s had a chance to mellow it develops into a rich and complex whisky. I think 11 years is a sweet spot for lagavulin - rounded at the edges but not muted like the 16.
Nose: citrus, oak, peat
Palate: brine, fresh fruits, smoke
Finish: caramel, smoke, orange zest
