Nose
When the bottle was opened for the first time the smell of smoked ham and burnt rubber filed the room. After sitting a bit in a glass I started to get notes of burnt orange and rains, maybe pear as well followed by smoked meat smells. Then when my nose got used to smoky notes I discovered a lemon tart with icing sugar on it. What an exciting journey!
Palate
With very strong peat, like drinking a water with fresh charcoal in it. Then sweatnes comes a rape citrus fruit sweatnes comes along with savory ham.
Another sip and it gets candy sweat and finishes with dark chocolate notes spiced with nutmeg and cloves
Finish
Long finish starts sweet, dark chocolate and candied and getting drier peppery and ashy.
Really complex whisky. It has so many layers, it starts as very definite Laphroaig with smokiness in your face and then started to show a lot of more complex notes while keeping its character in background. Definitely my favourite Laphroaig and in top 5 of my favourite peated whisky.
